This week’s Diversity-owned Small Business is Sonora Grill! Owner Conrado Badilla Paredes is from Hermosillo, Sonora Mexico. Having started taco supremacy in the Midtown Global Market, the current full-service restaurant opened at the end of 2014. Sonora has been serving up an amazing modern perspective of Mexican cuisine. The menu features some items that have won local hospitality awards and are a must if you haven’t had them already. I don’t wait for Taco Tuesdays to enjoy Sonora – but I do partake almost weekly! Their elote and shrimp tempura tacos are the aforementioned award winners- get them in your belly! Their tacos are the bomb; you can’t go wrong with whichever you choose: seafood, pork, chicken, steak, etc. Vegetarians; the cactus or mushroom tacos are here for you, as well as other selections. Paleo?- order the pinchos or any number of their seafood/meat selections. My favorite is the seafood bichi; I could eat it All. Night. Long. Add an order of the eggplant fries- you won’t be mad you did but you’ll be sad if you don’t. They also have contactless pick-up or order via DoorDash, GrubHub, and Bite Squad. They have socially-distanced indoor and patio seating (reservations required) and at the table, you efficiently text in your order! Next weekend, my favorite mealtime will be added: Brunch! Pro tip: one of their specialty cocktails (my go-to) is the Obregon and can be requested. You can order the fresh mix kit and just add your tequila. I long for the day when I can belly up to the bar again and chat with my favorite bar crew over a specialty Obregon they make just for me.
