This week’s Diversity-Owned Spotlight is Du Nord Craft Spirits. It’s one of the few Black owned distilleries in the United States. Since 2013, owners Shanelle & Chris Montana have brought their different upbringing (small town vs. Minneapolis) together to form a rural and city energy for the distillery. Du Nord makes small batches of specialty gin, vodka, whiskeys, and liqueurs. Du Nord sources as many local ingredients as possible; beginning with beet, corn, rye, and sugar grown here in MN. The result is an array of fine spirits. I love the L’e Toile Du Nord Vodka. It’s so smooth you can sip it, but also enjoy your favorite cocktail with it. Coffee fans? – Try the Cafe Frieda , which uses local Peace Coffee Yeti cold press blend for this liqueur. Pre-covid, you could go to their Cocktail Room to enjoy artisan drinks made with care. Don’t fret – you can still enjoy Du Nord Spirits – they’re in restaurants and sold in liquor stores all over the state. And in these covid times; they also sell hand sanitizer.
